Sports Therapist joins the team

Qualified Sports Therapist Angus Uwland has joined the team at Nick Hose Fitness and is now taking bookings to help locals improve or restore their function and performance.

Angus has an advanced diploma in sports therapy and uses a range of hands on and corrective exercises to aid people’s recovery from injury as well as general wear and tear.

He said working within the Nick Hose Fitness environment meant he could use the private consultancy room and take advantage of the gym’s state-of-the-art exercise equipment.

“Sports therapy fits in between physio and strength and conditioning. I generally do some hands on, soft tissue work with clients on the table and then we work on some specific exercises in the gym to further target the specific issue,” he said.

“A lot of the work I do is to correct reoccurring issues like hamstrings and calves, but I’m also finding people are looking for help recovering from things like knee reconstructions, shoulder reconstructions as well as things like knee and back pain.”

Angus completed his industry placement at the North Melbourne Football Club last year and said he enjoyed working with elite athletes.

“It was a very structured environment and professional athletes have great access to services like sports therapy, but I get just as much satisfaction helping someone who has had a long, physical job that has taken a toll on their body,” he said.

“I can help with everything from increasing mobility for older people to building strength in young people. The diversity is one of the things I love about my job and I’m looking forward to meeting lots of Nick’s clients and helping them feel even better physically and mentally.”

Gym owner Nick Hose said his business was dedicated to holistic health and wellbeing outcomes for clients and Angus’ appointment further bolstered that commitment.

“Gus plays senior football at Cobden, he’s 22 and is fully qualified by the Australian College of Sports Therapy. I’m absolutely rapt to have him as a part of our team.”
