High Intensity Interval Training

High Intensity Interval Training
By Nick Hose

As you have no doubt discovered by now, we’re big believers that variety is really important when it comes to staying motivated in the gym.

This coming term we’re launching yet another new Group Class that we think will prove a real hit with anyone who’s looking to shed some unwanted body fat and really push themselves.

High Intensity Interval Training (HiiT) alternates between high intensity and low intensity intervals. It’s great fun as the variety of exercises changes often to help target different muscle groups, achieving an overall full body workout.

HiiT can be a great way to work out and achieve the fitness and body composition you might be looking for. Research shows it’s very effective in burning fat, increasing metabolism and boosting endurance.

While part of the success of HiiT classes is toning your muscle while spiking your heart rate, the rest periods between each set are also important because they force your body to continually adjust between two very different states.

Term 4 runs for 11 weeks from October 8 to December 21 and is one of our busiest terms as many of us like to feel great for Summer.

If you’re keen to give HiiT a try, we’ve included two slots in our timetable of Group Classes. There’s ‘45 Hiit’ – a 45 minute session with new trainer Kate Gaut on Thursday morning, which is targeted at our high school-aged clients. We’re excited about this class, as there are a wide range of studies showing the many benefits of exercising before school.

The second class is Saturday morning ‘HiiT Class’, which is an hour with trainer Hanna Fleming. This class is open to anyone and everyone who is looking for a great start to their weekend.

Our other changes include moving Boxing with Darryl from Mondays to Tuesdays, a new Open Circuit for men and women on Thursday mornings and we’re taking a break from Rip Class and Mums and Bubs for a while.

Remember if you’re a Platinum Gym Member ($25 per week) you can enjoy unlimited Group Classes for no additional cost. This is proving to be a great way for our members to enjoy lots of variety and flexibility to help them stay motivated and on track.

Our website has more information about our group classes, including a full Term 4 timetable and contact details should you wish to sign up or find out more.
